Museo del Prado

Museo del Prado is the most prestigious Madrid's gallery and top tourist attraction. The building of the Museum is designed by the neo-classical architect.

Museo del Prado in Madrid presents the collection of European art from 12th century to the early 19th century. It is the most important world repository of the collections of paintings and sculpture. The museum houses more than 200 prints, 5,000 drawings, 1,000 coins and medals and nearly 2000 decorative objects and more than 700 works of sculpture.

Among Spanish masters visitors can contemplate Diego Velazquez, Francisco de Goya, Murillo and Domenikos Theotokopoulos, better known as El Greco. Italian works are presented by Raphael, Andrea Mantegna, Andrea del Sarto, Sandro Botticelli, Fra Angelico, Tiziano and Correggio.

The most popular and famous works are the Maids of honour - Las Meninas and the Spinners - Las Hilanderas by Velazquez, the Naked Maja, the Clothed Maja, Carlos IV and his Family by Francisco de Goya, the Triumph of Death by Pieter Brueghel, the Adam and Eve by Albrecht Durer and the Three Graces by Rubens.

In 2019 the Museo del Prado is going to celebrate its 200th anniversary. The date will make the famous Madrid museum one of the oldest in the world.
